Our Interests and Passions

We met in 1966 and got married in 1968 so have been together a long time and still going strong! During these great times we've raised two children—Craig & Kirsty—and now have beautiful grand-children Hannah Lily (2006) and Sebastian James (2008).

For over twenty years we had a small-holding (one of the first 'good lifers!) with Jersey cows, sheep, pigs, bees, etc. We managed to provide most of our food and although we considered farming on a larger scale we continued as part-timers: Barry working and Vicky running the day-to-day self-sufficiency. When our children left home there was way-too-much milk which Vicky made into butter and sold at auction. But like most small enterprises the government legislation finally pushed us out of business. We were also older and when our Jersey grand-dam 'Orchid' died at 19 years old we decided to call it a day. Sometimes we miss it, as it was such a wonderful experience but we are now enjoying every minute of the present.

Vicky

'Passionate about quilts and patchwork' sums up Vicky's main interest. After many, many years and City & Guild qualifications in both Design and Patchwork & Quilting she still enjoys traditional techniques in hand and machine work for quilts, wall hangings, bags, boxes, and clothing. Vicky's work has been displayed in various West Country exhibitions and on permanent display in Cheltenham General Hospital. She has formed a Patchwork & Quilting Group in Lyme Regis.

Barry

Despite working in computer software development for over forty years, Barry still has a strong interest in the industry especially in the areas of software management. He also spends time designing and building effective websites for small businesses and organizations in the Dorset/Devon/Somerset borders.

Barry's main passion is sailing—sail racing in small fast dinghies. Most summer weekends and some evenings he is on the water enjoying the challenge of using the wind and sea to move boats through the water at top speed! Barry os an RYA Powerboat Instructor and Assistant Dinghy Instructor for the Lyme Regis Sea School.

Barry is a Quaker with a strong interest in his own spiritual development and that of others. He is deeply involved in work on the Gospel of Thomas and runs study groups to help others understand the significance of Jesus' sayings recorded by Thomas.
